AFFECTED RANGE:
Left hand drive vehicles with 185 tyres.
PROBLEM:
BRAKE PULL - CASTOR DIFFERENTIAL
Vehicle veers to right under moderate to heavy braking at speeds above or
around 100 kph. Condition is exaggerated with road camber.
CAUSE:
Castor differential.
ACTION:
The following should be considered
before further action:
TYRES: Check pressures and look for
abnormal wear. If suspect, swap tyres
from side to side and / or front to back.
BRAKES: Assess efficiency and balance.
SUSPENSION: Check trim heights.
STEERING: Ensure free travel from lock to lock.
DAMAGE: Look for signs of damage and security of mountings, bushes etc.
Correct or repair as necessary, (using appropriate Complaint Code and SRO, if
vehicle in warranty).
If condition still occurs or no pre-check fault was found, check front geometry
as follows.
Compare right hand side castor with left hand side castor (at kerb trim height)
a) Left hand side castor angle greater than right hand side by up to 1 degree:-Fit
special lower arm (part no. RAB1026340) to left hand side.
b) Left hand side castor angle greater than right hand side by between 1 and 2
degrees:- Fit lower arm (part no. RAB10169) to left hand side.
Reset front wheel alignment and re-assess vehicle.
